"MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN" law expanded and became permanent January 1, 2010

Sacramento – California has had a "Move Over, Slow Down" law for several years.  The law that took effect January 1, 2010 made it permanent and added Caltrans trucks to the list of vehicles you must make way for, which includes police cars, fire engines, ambulances and tow trucks.  If you see an emergency vehicle on the side of a highway with lights flashing, you must slow down and move into an adjacent lane if it is safe to do so.  The fine for violating this law is around $146, with one point on your driving record.

Employment Trends Index (ETI)™ increases for first time in 16 Months

June 14, 2009 - The Employment Trends Index (ETI)™ for May now stands at 89.9, a 0.2 percent increase from the revised April figure of 89.7, and a 20 percent decrease compared with a year ago, according to a report released Monday by The Conference Board.

"While it is too early to say that the ETI has bottomed, the moderation of the last two months is certainly a sign that the decline in job losses is real and signals that the worst is over," said Gad Levanon, senior economist at The Conference Board. "However, as the economic recovery over the coming months is likely to be very slow, we still expect the unemployment rate to continue to increase to double digits by the end of this year and into 2010."

This month, the components of the Employment Trends Index™ showed a mixed picture. The improving indicators were the Percentage of Firms With Positions Not Able to Fill Right Now; percentage of respondents who say they find "Jobs Hard to Get;" Real Manufacturing and Trade Sales; and Job Openings.

FAA Hiring Notice
Contributed by Ms. Juanita Whitside

If you have or know kids between the ages of 18-31 with a high school diploma, the Federal Aviation Association is taking applications for air traffic controller school. We all have kids and know kids in the right age group (under 31) and with some effort they could reach a salary of over $100,000 with benefits in about 3 years! You need only a high school diploma to apply and credit is given for college on the exam. They need to go to FAA Job Opportunities for details and to fill out the application immediately - even if they don't know if! they'd want to attend immediately - it's the federal government and it may take them months to call.

faa-job.png

The key is to apply now.
There will be a lot of retirements coming up rather quickly and they need to line up training to accommodate these openings. It's my understanding that the FAA rarely has an open application such as this and that the jobs are coveted. The person who shared this has a 28 year old daughter who is well into 6 figures and has plenty of time for travel/recreation and has started another career on the side. This is a great opportunity and it should be noted that choosing a site like Anchorage or Indianapolis to train is a likely acceptance into the training program - after-which you can transfer anywhere in the country that has a tower. I hope you pass this information on to family, friends, etc.
