committee, which will provide input to the master
developer who will be revamping the 40-acre shoreline
area at the San Leandro Marina, are now available on the city’s Web site.
Hurry up and act fast if you
want to be considered. The deadline to submit an
application is Aug. 29.

Introduction to the History of San

San Leandro was
first discovered on March 20, 1772 by Spanish soldier
Captain Pedro Fages and the Spanish Catholic priest
Father Crespi. Forty-eight years later, to increase
settlement and strengthen their claim to the Bay Area,
the Spanish gave to retired Spanish soldier Don Luis
Maria Peralta a 43,000 acre land grant which he named
Rancho San Antonio. In 1842, Don Jose Joaquin Estudillo,
also a retired Spanish soldier, was granted 7,000 acres
of land in the San Leandro area, which he named Rancho

Marina 
The San Leandro
Marina is part of the San Leandro Shoreline
Recreation Area. It boasts a full service marina
with 455 berths, a free launch ramp and two yacht
clubs. In addition there are a variety of other
amenities nearby including three restaurants, a
waterfront hotel, two golf courses, golf driving range,
a par course, park and picnic areas, and the shoreline
trail. Come visit us for an afternoon or weekend
outing!

Incorporated in 1872, San Leandro is a charter city
organized under a Mayor, Council, City Manager, form of
government. The City Council consists of six Members
from six districts and a Mayor. Council Members are
nominated by district and elected at-large and the Mayor
is also nominated and elected at-large. Each may serve a
maximum of two consecutive four-year terms.

AC Transit Bus
Service
AC Transit serves most of the East Bay
communities of Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, etc. The
Maps and Schedules section will
help you plan your trips and transfers to BART.
Bay Area Rapid
Transit (BART) - This electric
powered train serves the entire East Bay and San
Francisco and has a station in the San Francisco
International Airport. Two stations are located in
San Leandro: Bayfair and Downtown. The financial
district of San Francisco is about a 20-minute ride
on BART.
Note: You can catch the LINKS at the San
Leandro BART station every 20 minutes between the
morning hours of 5:45AM and 9:30AM and evenings
from 2:00PM until 7:30PM.

LINKS The LINKS is a
free shuttle linking San Leandro BART and the West San
Leandro business community. The shuttle provides an
alternative mode of transportation for over 20,000
employees in west San Leandro, helping to ease traffic
congestion and improve air quality. The shuttle runs
every 15 minutes during morning and evening commute
hours.

Monarch Bay
Golf Club features two spectacular courses - the 18-hole
Tony Lema Golf Course and the Marina 9-hole course.
Redesigned by John Harbottle, both courses have
undergone a $9 million dollar renovation. In addition to
the renovation, all fairways were replaced with a new
salt-tolerant grass called paspalum which produces great
playing conditions.
